105KW/215KWH Off-Grid in Nigeria
Project Overview
In response to Nigeria’s frequent grid outages and the need for reliable, self-sufficient power at commercial sites, FFD POWER deployed an off-grid + backup all-in-one Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This installation delivers resilient power for important loads, reduces reliance on fuel-based backup generation, and enables stable site operation through intelligent energy dispatch.
Project Background
Across many regions in Nigeria, utility supply can be unstable or unavailable for extended periods, forcing facilities to rely on backup generation and accept operational disruptions. For sites with critical loads, power continuity and fast transition between grid-connected and off-grid operation are essential. This project demonstrates a compact, rapidly deployable BESS approach to provide backup capability and microgrid operation while improving overall energy efficiency.
Project Challenge
- Grid Instability: Frequent voltage fluctuations and outages require an autonomous on-site power solution.
- Diesel Generator OPEX Pressure: Reliance on diesel backup results in high fuel consumption and volatile fuel costs, significantly increasing operating expenses.
- Deployment Constraints: The solution must be compact, safe, and quick to commission under site limitations.
FFD POWER Solution
FFD POWER implemented a compact All-in-One BESS, creating a localized “Power Hub” capable of off-grid operation and backup supply. With intelligent control and reserve management, the system maintains stable power for important loads while optimizing charging and discharging based on available onsite generation and site demand.

Operational Logic: The "Power Booster" Effect
The system maintains a controlled reserve for backup operation while dynamically managing energy flow to support reliable off-grid supply:
- Reserve-Aware Charging: The BESS charges whenever onsite generation is available, while maintaining a minimum state-of-charge (SoC) reserve to guarantee backup runtime.
- Diesel Optimization Support: The BESS smooths load and manages charging power to keep the diesel generator operating in its most efficient range, reducing fuel consumption and improving overall system efficiency.
- Load Following & Protection: The EMS prioritizes critical loads and regulates charge/discharge power to match site demand, reducing stress on equipment and ensuring safe, stable operation.
